Canva App Review
In Week 3 of DED 318, we used the app Canva to create an educational poster such as the one to the left, that could be used in our future classrooms or even assigned to students as a project. The app is available in the App Store or online for free, although additional features can be purchased if so desired. I would recommend this app to high school teachers, but no one below the 9th grade, because it is somewhat difficult to use despite the user-friendly layout. It seems very useful for organizing information in a visually appealing way, and I would most likely use it to encourage students to condense and review what they've learned about specific topics. I imagine it could be used in virtually any subject, thanks to the variety of formatting options. The app was easy to understand, with simple icons and a wide variety of text, image, and layout options. I liked the eye-catching visuals and various formats. However, it was very glitchy and frustrating to use, often deleting my work, and refusing to save. Furthermore, I would recommend that students use the app on a computer, not an iPad, as I had enormous difficulty even clicking and dragging text and photos. Overall, the app has a great number of features that are incredibly useful for engaging students in a more creative project than an essay or test. I will definitely use it in my classroom, and would encourage others to test it out for themselves. |
